Focus on the CH25, a Wegner Masterpiece dated 1950
Hans J. Wegner created his most successful furniture between 1949 and 1950, when he worked in the at that moment still small studio of Carl Hansen & Son. His most iconic designs—Wegner's Masterpieces—date from this period, including the CH24 Wishbone Chair, CH22, CH23, and the CH25 lounge chair. The CH25 is in production - without interruption - since 1950. Let's have a deeper look to his iconic CH25.
Traditional design
The CH25 is undoubtedly one of Wegner's most successful creations thanks to its refined and honest design. This iconic lounge chair incorporates more than 400 metres of hand-woven paper cord, which corresponds to 8 till 10 hours of work for an experienced weaver.
Wegner found papercord an interesting material,,, an invention of the Swedes who, during the war, had no sissal, and they started experiments with "torched" paper to bind their hay in the fields. Twisted paper was a good alternative, with a long lifespan comparable to high Martindale textiles.
An investment to pass on.
A visually soft lounge chair such as the CH25 fits into any interior style. And it is an investment that can be passed on from one generation to the next. If anything should go wrong with the papercord, it can be repaired in the workshops of Carl Hansen & Son. In short, the CH25 is an investment in the future..
