In relation to Antwerp Design Week (ADW), we are pleased to invite you to the lecture “Frans L. Van Praet x Carl Hansen & Son” on Monday, June 1th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Carl Hansen & Son flagship store, Schuttershofstraat in Antwerp. Van Praet will also be launching his iconic Sevilla Seat (1992) there... 3D-printed concrete. Luc Lemmens, chairman of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts (KMSK), will take care of the intro. 
 

Frans L. Van Praet: A Multidisciplinary Talent

Frans L. Van Praet (88) is hard to pin down to a single role: is he a philosopher, sculptor, designer, or product developer? You’ll find out on June 1th at 11 AM at the Carl Hansen & Søn flagship store in Antwerp through the story behind the Sevilla Seat 

Van Praet enjoys working with Hans J. Wegner’s designs. He recently used these pieces to furnish the Antwerp Chamber of Commerce.

The Sevilla Seat and Val Saint Lambert

Frans L. Van Praet gained the most recognition for the Belgian Pavilion at the 1992 World Expo in Seville. His Sevilla Seat—crafted from Val Saint Lambert crystal—was the centerpiece there. This icon is currently back in the spotlight thanks to the “200 Years of Val Saint Lambert” exhibitions in Brussels and Seraing. Van Praet is no slacker and has built up an impressive and wide-ranging body of work over the years.
